Specifically, magnetite and hematite are the main ironbearing ores in the Lake Superior district and in the northeastern United States, while hematite and hematitemagnetite mixtures tend to be found in ores in Alabama and the Southwest. Process Overview Iron Ore Mining There are two basic methods of mining iron ore.
· Iron ore is the material from which the metal iron is produced. The process of mining dates back to prehistoric times.
